Fundamentals of Detention & Corrections

This Fundamentals of Detention & Corrections micro-credential is designed to meet the needs of current or aspiring detention and corrections professionals, and others who are interested in learning more about criminal justice. Completers are prepared to enter into careers as detention and corrections officers and will learn primary components of the criminal justice system - law enforcement, the court system, and corrections - and their general operating processes and responsibilities; the legal, social, and ethical issues influencing criminal justice; and the availability of criminal case file information to the public. This micro-credential can be completed online in as little as eight weeks.

Required 6 hours


In addition to the required 6 credit hours, the Essentials of Corrections and Online Learning is also required.  It is a (6) hour non-credit course team taught by Rogers County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) and RSU’s faculty.  This course of instruction will be taught the Saturday prior to Fall and Spring semester starts. The first four (4) hours, taught by RCSO detention officers, will be dedicated to providing learners a fundamental understanding of the corrections/detention officer career pathways as well as essential skills and knowledge required. The final two hours, taught by RSU Criminal Justice full-time faculty, will provide the learners lessons in online learning, LMS (Blackboard) familiarization, time management, and course overviews of for credit courses.
